School Stuff

We usually do school in the afternoons while Luke is napping.  Today we had friends coming over in the afternoon, so we did school in the morning.  Seth really enjoyed having Luke do school with him, but it took him 45 minutes to do his math.  It usually only takes about 10 minutes. Luke sat beside him and worked in a coloring book.  Seth kept getting out of his chair to "help" Luke.

Painting Pumpkins and Camping Out

Fall has finally arrived and the desire to buy a pumpkin has overwhelmed the kids.  I finally gave in and bought each of them a little pumpkin to paint.  Luke was really excited about painting the the pumpkin (he always gets excited about painting).  Seth really wanted to cut eyes on it and put a candle in it.  I showed him how to paint a face on it, and he seemed happy with it.  Carving a pumpkin is no easy feat, and I didn't really want to cut off my finger while trying.

Along with buying pumpkins, Fall means camping.  I *love* camping.  In a cabin.  With heat and running water.  Jesse wanted to take Seth to a local camp ground to sleep in our 6-person tent.  I told him I'd stay home with Luke and wished him well.  He then decided to set the tent up in the backyard, which I thought was a fabulous idea.  We made a fire (I use the term we loosely) in our fire pit and roasted hotdogs and then marshmallows, so we could make s'mores.  Luke wasn't impressed with the s'mores.  He just wanted the chocolate.  The boys spent the evening running around the backyard while Jesse and I enjoyed warming our hands by the fire.  It was rather chilly outside, so I was glad when it was time for Luke to go to bed.  After I put Luke down, I was looking forward to watching Ugly Betty on the dvr.  When I went downstairs, Jesse and Seth were in the living room playing the Wii.  Apparently they got bored outside and wanted to come in.  WHen it was time for Seth to go to bed, he was ready to head back out to the tent.  It had just started raining, and it was really cold, so I tried to convince him to stay inside, but much to Jesse's dismay, he really wanted to sleep outside.  I told them goodnight and they went back outside.  Ten minutes later, they were back inside, so I put Seth in his bed, and then Jesse and I went to bed, too.  It was a fun and busy evening.  I'm not so sure if they'll actually make it to a campground this Fall.  heh.  I'm not even sure if they'll actually sleep in the tent in the backyard!  Heehee.

Seth and I went outside this afternoon when the ground dried so we could check on the tent.  It was really cold in the tent.  For some reason, I thought the tent would be warmer than outside, but it was just as cold.  We discovered two puddles inside the tent, so we think there's a leak somewhere.  Its a good thing they didn't sleep outside last night.  Not only would they have froze to death, they would've been wet, too!

Animal Hospital

Today we went to visit the clinic where our good friend Allison works (she's a vet).   We saw lots of dogs and cats that were up for adoption from the Second Chance organization.  Seth found lots of puppies to pet (Luke and Jesse stayed home to nap, so they didn't go with us).  They also had a dalmation and a few grey hounds.   We went inside for a tour and got to see where they perform surgeries and physical rehab on the animals.  We also saw lots of x-rays of some unfortunate dogs and cats (one of them had eaten chicken bones and another had a bladder stone).  There was a cute pomeranian demonstrating the hydro-treadmill, but she looked a little less than thrilled to see a tour group coming through while she was exercising.  Overall, it was a very neat facility, and it was really cool to see everything they had there.
